Amalia's New 'Do

The other day, Amalia asked me, "Mom, do we have any special occasions coming up?  Like any parties?"  I replied in the negative, to which she replied, "Okay, then I want to cut my hair up to the bottoms of my ears!"

Fast forward to today, and we made it to the salon to change the 'do.

For Baylor and Mollie, it is always: Have book, will travel.

And there it was!  A new hairdo for my little lady!

She is loving her new 'do, especially now that she doesn't have to have her hair braided every night before bed.

The End of the School Year

The end of the school year is always an exciting time for kids and a busy one for families.  In between last minute parties and the ending of spring sports is the anticipatory excitement of the first taste of summer.

Our end-of-the-year festivities started off with Amalia's kindergarten celebration.  Her teacher gave out awards to each child, and Mollie was given the outstanding organizer award; apparently she would come to class every morning and start getting everything ready for the day.  I never knew she did this, but it certainly sounds like my girl.  During the celebration, each student got up to the microphone and read what they wanted to be when they grew up and what their favorite part of school was.  Amalia, though she was quite nervous, came up to the microphone and read in a bit of a husky voice that she wants to be a teacher when she grows up and that her favorite part of school was making new friends.

After the celebration and a sprinkle-filled ice cream cone on the playground, we picked up her brother and went home.

Once we got home, Amalia took her outstanding organizer award to heart and organized one of our more troublesome spots: the mudroom closet shoe area.

Afterwards, outstanding organizer crown atop her head, she read a book she received at the celebration.

A few days later it was the last day of school.  Baylor got all dressed up in a tie dye shirt he made with his class earlier in the week.

And Amalia wore one of her favorite dresses.

Amalia begged and pleaded with me to let her wear her flip flops to school, and I finally agreed on the last day of school.  A woodchipped playground is no place for flip flops, in my opinion, but a half day of school with little time at recess seemed just right.

Both kids had such a fantastic year; they grew so much, had such wonderful teachers, and made great friends along the way.  Thank you to those who helped foster all that and so much more.

Happy summer!

Fun and Games at the End of May

The end of May was all about fun and games for our family.  Amalia got to participate in her first field day, and she had a blast!

Baylor participated in most of the field day activities, too, and all was well and good until the sky opened up and poured rain over everyone effectively ending field day.

The next day the kids were actually able to swim in my parents' pool, and Mollie got the special job of standing on my dad's back so he could stay down to screw in one of the pool lights.

After they finished swimming, we all came inside to play a little Ticket to Ride.  Baylor had been playing it a bit at home, so it was exciting for him to play with everyone.

He did pretty well, too, in spite of being a little bit of a distracted player.

The next day Amalia played her first game of Clue with Bryson.

Both of them had a lot of fun, and we've all played Clue a few times since then.

We ended our spring with so much fun and so many games, and - lucky us - it has continued into the summer!

Have a wonderful day!
