Provin Trails Fun

A couple weeks ago I took the kids across the way to a lovely little hiking trail for some outdoor fun.  It was a bit brisk that day, but they took it in stride and away we went.

Baylor, a fan of all maps, had to take a good look at the trail guide and look at all the colors.  Mollie insisted on carrying all of our supplies in Baylor's froggy backpack.

We started off on the yellow trail and the kids were pretty excited when we saw our first trail marker.

Of course, not too far in they got hungry ... luckily I brought squeezie applesauce for them.

I'm pretty sure they downed it without breathing once.

We then veered off on a trail that looked a bit "advance" for the little hikers, but they would have no other way so we ventured on.  Notice how the trail just drops away in the background?  Yeah, I was a little nervous.

But it turned out fine, of course, and we even came upon a bench where they could rest for a minute or two.

Unfortunately I discovered Baylor had had an accident just after getting off the bench.  With his extra clothes back at the car, and the car being as far away from us as it could be on the trail, we soldiered on.  Luckily it was only a little accident, so he wasn't too too wet.

We finally found the green trail and the kids were more than happy to pose for a picture with the marker.

Next up was the blue trail ... Baylor was less than enthused to have his picture taken yet again, but Mollie hammed it up for me.

Remembering that we had all sorts of adventure gear in the backpack, I got the kids to stop and inspect the nature around us for a bit.  Mollie started off with the giant magnifying glass ...

... and Baylor looked around with the binoculars.

Of course, when it came time to switch, Mollie was still very much in magnifying mode.

And Baylor just wanted to play with the stand on the magnifying glass.

But Mollie got into the exploration and even felt the bark on her chosen tree.

All that exploring and hiking can really make a kid hungry, so we stopped for a fish cracker snack on the trail.

It was getting a little late, so we started to head back to the car.  All of a sudden we came upon a stump in the road, and Mollie just had to climb up on it.  She looked a bit like the Lorax to me ... so incredibly cute!

And then she fell.

But she was okay and I was finally able to pry her away from the oh-so fascinating stump.  We carried on and finally found our way back to the trail guide.  After one last look, I noticed that Baylor had had yet another accident ... this one much worse than before.

We quickly scurried back to the car and got him changed in the trunk ... thank goodness for minivans!

Our time at Provin Trails was a blast and we're sure to head back there soon!
