My grandparents, Amalia's great-grandparents, came up for a visit the weekend before her birthday to help us celebrate, and the unseasonably warm weather brought a healthy dose of sunshine to the occasion. Amalia refers to them as GG and Bupa; she has been talking about them a lot since we went to their house for Christmas, even pretending to talk to them on the phone every now and then, and while she wasn't her usual self while they were here, she was much warmer than she usually is around people she hasn't seen in a while.
For her birthday they gave her a chef set, complete with apron, chef hat, and oven mitt. She, of course, had to try them out ... pronto!

They also gave her some Sesame Street pop up books and an adorable dinosaur backpack.
Much to her mother's chagrin, cards come after presents in the life of this two year-old.
But at least it was all followed by hugs ...
...and a chat with Bupa.
She even asked GG to read one of her new books!
Every so often, Mollie likes to strike an awkward, gravity-defying pose on a couch or chair. I know I am biased, but I think it's incredibly adorable. So Mollie!
She rocked the apron all the way 'til lunch ... it matched perfectly with her outfit!
Baylor got to build with GG, chatting her ear off all the while.
And after lunch we went outside and flew a new kite my mom had purchased for the kiddos. Mollie was definitely intrigued.
And Baylor totally got a kick out of flying it.
Mollie, bitty thing that she is, even got to hold the kite a bit!
With help, of course.
Kite flying was successful except for a few tenuous moments after Baylor let the reel go and the kite landed in a tall tree. After it was retrieved, all was well again and the kids came in for a nap.
Later on, once everyone was well-rested, we enjoyed a little cake. Baylor didn't enjoy the singing, but, as I've told him, it was Mollie's birthday and we need to do what the birthday boy/girl wants and enjoys. Mollie enjoys hearing people singing, so we sang.
A gorgeous day, time with family, and lots of fun made for a great start to Mollie's second birthday!
