Christmas 2011: Magical Christmas Morning

Christmas with little kids like ours makes the holiday seem that much more special.  Santa has come, there are presents to be unwrapped and marveled-at, and all of it can be done wearing pajamas!  Doesn't get much better than that.  This year, Santa brought the kids puzzles ... they seemed to like them enough; as much as they can first thing in the morning, anyways.

Then Bryson got to open the ornaments I helped the kids make for him out of polymer clay and acrylic paints.  They took all day to make, but I think they were worth it; he really seemed to like them.

Then we opened stockings.  Baylor got beginner chopsticks so he can be just like Daddy when we have Chinese food; ironically, Bryson incorrectly identified them as a tuning fork when he first saw them.

Then it was on to the bigger gifts from Mommy and Daddy; we try to only do a couple gifts for the kids each year, which is often difficult because they are so fun to buy for.  However, given that others will also be buying them gifts we find it's important to not overwhelm them with "stuff".

This year, Baylor got the swivel bridge track he had seen in the toy store.  He was positively giddy when he opened it.

Mollie got a stroller and diaper bag for her dolls, complete with a little feeding set.  She instantly got to work taking care of her baby Sally (named after Charlie Brown's sister), giving her a little breakfast before zooming her around the living room.

I'm not going to lie, Christmas morning not spent at my parents' house is always a little bittersweet for me; I miss my parents and sister intensely and get a little teary-eyed when I think back to Christmases past, but I love, love, love that we're creating new traditions of our own and making these new memories with our kids.  Plus, soon after these pictures were taken, we got ready and headed over to my parents' house to start the day's festivities with them.  Best of both worlds, right?
