Wedding Weekend

On Saturday, we headed to the Novi, MI area for our friends' wedding. Doug and Michelle were kind enough to invite the kids, so we made it our first trip as a foursome.

We left about ten minutes after our scheduled departure time, but since we hadn't firmed up our departure time until that morning I'd say that was pretty good. After about an hour of driving, we stopped in Okemos for a bite at Arby's. Baylor got to try a curly fry and had a lot of fun dipping his chicken into a cup of ketchup.

Mollie was kind enough to keep sleeping for a bit while I grabbed a bite to eat.

Then Baylor started having too much fun with his ketchup, dipping his whole hand into the tiny cup, so Bryson took over dipping duties.

We had borrowed my parents' Garmin, which would have worked out perfectly if not for one small address error. Instead of landing at our hotel before the wedding, we ended up changing the kids' clothes in the parking lot of this orthodontist's office. (And if they check their security cameras, they might get a sneak peek of me changing my clothes in the trunk of our minivan. Awesome.)

Without too much hurrying, we got to the wedding on time and were there to witness a lovely ceremony. Baylor squirmed a bit throughout the whole thing and was constantly marvelling at the stained glass, but overall he did really well.

Gorgeous church, huh?

The kids even let me get my hair all straightened out that morning just for the occasion! (Thanks, kiddos!)

Unfortunately, I forgot Mollie's binkie in the car, so we had to use Nora's trunk as a sucking substitute.

The reception was only a few minutes away, but Baylor still managed to fall asleep on the way. So we headed to the hotel instead, got checked in, and took our stuff up to the room. By the time we made it to the reception, Baylor was up and ready to party!

Oh, and so was Mollie!

Baylor had fun arranging our name cards in a line.

And we finally got what I believe to be our first foursome family photo ... at least the first one with us dressed in our finery.

After her dinner, Mollie fell asleep for a bit. She was awoken later by the vuvuzelas a couple guests had brought with them and were blowing in attempts to get the happy couple to kiss.

Michelle, the bride ... aren't her dress and hair positively lovely?!

Baylor enjoyed eating the cake with an adult-sized fork.

He got the hang of it quickly, too!

Then it was time for dancing! And boy, did we dance!

We stayed at the reception until almost 10:30! By then the kids were tired and ready to hit the hay, so we headed back to the hotel. Mollie chilled on the bed while we got Baylor ready.

The hotel said they were providing us with a "crib", but it ended up being a pack n' play. Oh well. We set that up in the middle of the room for Baylor ...

And set up our own pack n' play from home by the sink for Mollie.

After all that dancing and running around, Baylor slept like a champ! In the morning, he awoke, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to head home.

Mollie, however, was not a fan of sleeping in the pack n' play. So much so, in fact, that I could only get her to sleep in ...

... her car seat! So that's exactly how she slept. Right by the door. And, lucky for me, she only woke up once to eat! Whew!

At breakfast, Baylor got to try waffles for the first time and even got to dip them in syrup!

Thankfully, Mollie was awake for a bit during breakfast; I didn't want her sleeping through the morning only to be awake and upset for the car ride home.

As we packed the car up, Baylor took an opportunity to run out into the field next to the hotel. He could have spent all day out there if we'd let him.

It was a great trip, lovely wedding, and wonderful chance to see some of our old friends again! And for all that we put them through, it showed me that I totally lucked out and got two of the best kids you could ask for!

Congrats, Doug and Michelle!
