On a rather steamy summer evening this week, the kids and I were over at my parents' house for dinner and fun. We headed out into the humidity after dinner - but before dessert - and the kids had a blast.
Mollie was very interested in what Oma was doing.
Mollie was very interested in what Oma was doing.
"I have never seen anyone sweep before! This is magical! Wait, why haven't I seen Mommy doing this?
She went into the garage to look at the toys when all of a sudden she let out a decently large toot ... then she turned and smiled at me.
Mollie didn't really want to draw with the chalk much, but she was quite happy to carry around the giant bag of chalk for a while.
When Grandpa E brought out this little basketball, Mollie ditched the chalk and started playing.
Doesn't she look so tiny in this picture?!
Once the hoop was lowered, Dad helped Baylor dunk ...
... and Mom, bless her heart, tried to help Mollie dunk.
The boys next door were playing basketball too, and at some points the kids couldn't take their eyes off the big kids.
Mollie finally got a little help from Grandpa E and the dunking went much easier.
Then Mollie absconded with a couple of the balls.
And Baylor, big guy that he is, hopped into the Cozy Coupe for a spin.
He eventually moved on to his bike, which seemed much more suited to his size.
Baylor then parted ways with his trike so he could go down the slide a bit. Grandpa E was there as spotter ...
... and tickle sniper. Looks like he got him!
Baylor then started climbing up the slide the wrong way.
And enjoyed every second of it.
Mollie tried to get a little mowing done in spite of her rather formal attire.
But it proved to be a tough task for the little lady.
My poor boy gets as red as a tomato when he's out in the heat and his head becomes an instant sweat factory - you know, a factory where they make sweat. (Which is why tomorrow he's probably going to be getting a very short haircut ... gotta cool off that little head somehow!)
Mollie noticed that my dad had walked the trash and recycling to the end of the driveway and was very interested in going to get him. But he made a quick trip back up, and she was satisfied to have him there.
Baylor has been in a very lovey mood lately and that night he lavished a bit of it on my dad. I think Grandpa E enjoyed the spontaneous hug from the little man.
Mom took Mollie and Scout for a ride in the Cozy Coupe. The little lady loves a chauffeur!
Meanwhile, Baylor went looking for Tom Thumb and Hunca Munca. Sadly, they were nowhere to be found.
After all our outdoor adventures, Baylor was a red, sweaty mess. But quite happy nonetheless!
He eventually cooled down, and the kids and I sat on the back steps for an impromptu photo.
It was a lovely little evening indeed!
