Encounter with a Froggy Friend

The kids and I went out for a walk one morning last week.  Unfortunately, it was so hot and humid out that Baylor asked to go back home before we even made it onto our neighbors' sidewalk.  We were able to enjoy a little more outdoor time, though, as the sun and our maple tree conspired to give us a little shade on our front walkway.  As the kids explored, I noticed a slight discoloration on my now-enormous hydrangea bush.  Upon further inspection, I discovered an adorable surprise.

This little froggy friend was just hanging out, enjoying a little shade offered by other leaves of the bush.  I would have thought he was dead, but his throat throbbed every now and then, reassuring me he was still very much alive ... and very good at being perfectly still.

Baylor, though thinking the frog was very cute, wanted him to go away.  And for some reason, he thought that ringing our doorbell would accomplish this goal.

He tried the one by the garage door, but it is currently out of operation.

And apparently the one by the front door just wasn't loud enough.

Mollie was more interested in exploring all the flowers in bloom.  First the Russian sage just beyond the fence ...

... then the hydrangea bush the frog was occupying.

She was very gentle even as she poked her little finger through the tiny blossoms.  I can't blame her for wanting to touch them; they were so gorgeous!

Our froggy friend stayed all through the day and into the evening.  By the next morning, however, he had moved on.  Maybe we'll see him again soon.
