Cape Cod: Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

Though it was a pretty chilly evening in Chatham, we decided to check out a Cape League baseball game on Tuesday night. The Chatham Anglers (formerly the Athletics) were playing the Cotuit Kettleers at Veterans Field, and it was so much fun to watch these college players out there really seeming to enjoy the game.

Veterans Field ... a gorgeous slice of Americana.

In spite of the chill in the air, my son was all smiles and giggles as we sat watching the game.

He seemed to love hearing all the noises of baseball - the crack of the bat, the thunk of the ball in a glove, the roar of the crowd.

And, of course, he had to check out Daddy's new Anglers hat.

Eventually it got too cold for the little man, so my husband ran him home to hang out with his Oma.
The games are free to attend, so the budget is small for this organization. Here is the low-tech radio broadcast.

An argument broke out between the Cotuit coach and the umps. Something about the second baseman still having the ball, and shouldn't the runner be out, etc. I was a little lost, but that's the way it tends to go at sporting events. Such is life!

Sadly, the Anglers were handed their first loss for the season, but a good time was had by all in spite of the bitter cold that set in. Christine and I went back to the house in about the sixth inning because we were freezing and I needed to get the little man to bed at a decent time, but Dad and Bryson stayed for the duration and were popsicles by the time they got back. Ah, for the love of the game!
